Tips & Tricks:

  • 💨 I also included air fryer instructions in this recipe if you would like to try that out.
  • ❌ Gluten free? Lettuce wrap your burger by using this trick to easily peel whole iceberg leaves.

Ingredients:

  • 2 soft hamburger buns, buttered and toasted
  • 8 ounces ground beef or turkey
  • salt and black pepper
  • 2 slices of American or cheddar cheese
  • 4 slices of bacon
  • Your favorite burger condiments and toppings, such as mayonnaise, mustard, shredded lettuce, onions, tomatoes, and pickles

Directions:

  1. Veg Prep
    1. Prep any of your condiments that need to be sliced.
  2. Cook Bacon
    1. Cook 4 slices of bacon in a large non-stick pan over medium heat, until crispy.
    2. While the bacon is cooking, roll your ground meat of choice into 2 (4 oz) balls.
    3. Set bacon aside on paper towels to soak up the grease.
  3. Stove Top Option for Burgers
    1. Using the same pan with the bacon grease, raise to high heat.
    2. Place each ball in the pan and smash down with a stiff spatula.
    3. Season the patties with salt and pepper and allow to cook until the bottom of the patties are well browned, about 1-2 minutes.
    4. Using the spatula, carefully flip the patties and immediately place a slice of cheese on each patty.
    5. Cover the pan and let the cheese melt and the burger finish cooking for about 1-2 minutes, depending on how thick your patties are. This is a good time to toast your burger buns.
  4. Air Fryer Option for Burgers
    1. Smash the ground meat into patties using your hands, adding a thumb indention in the middle to help the burgers keep their shape and not swell while cooking. Like this.
    2. Rub a light layer of oil on the air fryer pan and place each patty (indention up) in the air fryer and season generously with salt and pepper.
    3. Close the air fryer and set the temperature to 400 degrees for 10 minutes.
    4. Half way through, flip the patties and lay a slice of cheese over each patty.
    5. Continue to cook for the remaining time. This is a good time to toast your burger buns.
  5. Serve
    1. Transfer cooked patties to a toasted burger bun and top with bacon and any other favorite condiments and toppings.
